Benevolence Farm Receives $5,000 Grant from Truist Foundation

Benevolence Farm today announced it received a $5,000 grant from Truist Foundation to fund a 10 kW solar farm installation to provide year-round renewable energy to Benevolence Farm’s barn and greenhouse.

“As an organization committed to the employment of formerly incarcerated women, we are constantly searching for ways to expand our enterprise model so that we may hire more women,” said Kristen Powers, interim executive director of Benevolence Farm. “We are so excited to receive the Truist Foundation grant as it gets us that much closer to building our solar farm project.”

This project will provide more work opportunities for formerly incarcerated women in Alamance County as they transition back into the workforce. The solar panels will make year-round farming possible and thus allow Benevolence Farm the opportunity to hire more “seasonal workers” who live in the community and need a second chance at workforce opportunities.

“On behalf of Truist Foundation, we’re pleased to support Benevolence Farm and its solar farm project,” said Chris Bryan, Alamance county market president for Truist. “Benevolence Farm is doing excellent work to foster leadership and sustainable ways for women to improve their overall well-being. Their mission aligns with our purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities.”
