Spring 2024: Our Wins

We believe there is no such thing as a “small win.” Everyone deserves a little celebration. Here are the latest Benevolence Farm accomplishments.

Freedom

  • BB’s ankle monitor was removed. 🙌
  • We are also beyond excited to welcome our 50th resident into our flagship housing program this week. Welcome home! 🏠
  • AW is officially off parole and all forms of supervision. She is free free. 💫

Transportation

  • AW saved up enough money to buy herself a new car! 🚗
  • RB got her driver’s license! 🪪
  • HW worked with vocational rehabilitation to fund her driving classes. It will be her first time behind the wheel and she’s very excited to learn in a safe and supportive environment. She earned her driver’s license with their support. 🚙
  • HG celebrated one year of freedom from prison this month. She also successfully completed probation and parole. She shared, “I am blessed to have people in my corner. I can go to them when I need to or when I need to talk or when I just need a hug. I’ve never really had that and I am proud to be the best version of myself. For me and my kids. I want them to see what I have done because they’ve always been my light.” ✨

Self-Advocacy, Wellness, & Community Building

  • A judge agreed with DB and stated that she does not need a satellite monitor during her supervision period. She also received an extension to complete her mandatory community service hours and her mental health assessment. The assessment was delayed due to an issue with her Medicaid status. ⚖️
  • NG realized there was an error with their pay check and spoke up, thanks to the encouragement of RB. We love when our residents support each other in speaking up and self-advocating. 💸
  • A Benevolence Farm resident and a Bonding Families member both successfully completed their parenting class. Community Advocacy Director, Mona Evans, attended their graduation. 🎓
  • NG collaborated with a local carpenter and built a custom rail to improve accessibility and safety on our stairwell. 🔨
  • Residents used lessons from conflict resolution programming to address an internal conflict between one another and are successfully holding themselves to their living agreements. 🤝
  • One of our residents secured gender affirming care and starts hormone replacement therapy this week. ⚕️
