We have a new Executive Director!

The Benevolence Farm Board of Directors has hired Kristen Powers to serve as the permanent Executive Director after a year serving in the interim position. Her position is effective immediately.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Kristen Powers as part of this organization,” said LaShauna Austria, Chair of Benevolence Farm’s Board of Directors.  “Despite taking on this role at the beginning of a pandemic, Kristen has worked extremely hard to advocate for Benevolence Farm residents and formerly incarcerated women here in North Carolina. We are excited to push this organization forward, and Kristen Powers is the right person to help us do just that.”

Kristen Powers has a long history with Benevolence Farm. She began volunteering on the Resource Development Committee in 2017 and joined the Board of Directors in late 2018. Before Benevolence Farm, Powers worked for the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, where she developed communication and advocacy campaigns with a focus on criminal legal reform and voting rights. Kristen Powers lives right down the road from Benevolence Farm in the village of Saxapahaw.

Please join us in welcoming Kristen to her new position!
